here's a fun topic to get arguing on... dog fights. Was reading this from cnn. People that make dogs fight, or kill the 'weak losers' -- as the alleged Vick and Co. did -- should, in my most humble, tiny, pacifistic opinion...
...be shot.
Seriously, as my mom would say. "What's the matter with these people."
We've been watching all these National Geo Supermax and Prison/Gang shows. I love that we go to great lengths to not kill people and lock 'em up, but at the same I'm conflicted as I watch the money, time and energy we put into people that do these horrible things... It just doesn't make any sense.

Did you read the story about Michael Vick, Atlanta Falcons quatrterback, who allegedly had a houseful of dogs (shipped across state lines, I believe) to be trained to fight. Do you think that he will be held accountable, or do you think he will be represented by some "slick" lawyer who gets him off and returned to the football field?
Sorry, I didn't read the story first, I just looked at the picture.
is that what my blog is good for, the pictures?
just wait -- if someone doesn't crack down on these machismo neanderthals for the dogfighting, the dogs will do it for them. chomp! right down on some very muscular gluteus maximus. just sad that it will invariably end in the poor dog's demise.
I guess you have to consider that in some groups of people, dogs are not considered sentient beings. They are considered very disposable property.
I personally know of two instances where dogs were sadistically abused by angry young men to "get back" at the young women who owned the dogs. One dog was thrown through a windshield of the woman's car (had to be euthanized) because she was cheating on him with the person who gave her the dog. The other dog (actually a puppy) was thrown into a hot oven to persuade the woman to come out of a locked bedroom with her baby. This dog survived but suffered a lot of treatment for painful burns on its feet. It's hard for these young men to understand why what they did was, at best, criminal, let alone sick and twisted.
Actually, if you dig back into history, Descartes didn't believe that dogs had emotions or intelligence and were just organisms that responded to stimuli. He would nail a dog to a wall and disembowel it to demonstrate that it's response was automatic and predictable. I wonder of his response would be automatic and predictable if someone did this to him.
