This show is the best thing on TV, period. End of Story. I have such a respect for boxers, and my feelings run the spectrum. It's true athleticism. It's "Gladiatorial." It's awful. It's beautiful. And so on...
The Contender, while very cleverly edited, doesn't miss the mark for real boxing fans. It is true that every match is like Rocky II, but what'd you expect with Sly involved. And yes, it is odd that Sly, not even a boxer in the least, is the authoritive figure on the show. Thankfully, Ray Leonard is there, and it's so cool to see him with these young guys. Imagine being a young boxer, and having SUGAR RAY SITTING ON YOUR BED!
I have to say, the best part of the whole show is how Burnett and Co. authored in the foundation of each boxer: their families. That's really what this show is all about. Last night's episode really gave emphasis to that. And dare I say, Reality TV as a whole, seems to have broadly hit the mark with repect to the balance of entertainment, family values, and morals.
Love the show! And you should too.
