I'm still trying to grasp this.
I live in Chicago. One of my guitar hero's is headed to Motown. I challenge my parents in Motown to leave their plush suburan neighborhood and head for downtown Detroit. My parents are greater than 60. My dad goes to bed at 8.
I took 75-1 odds they wouldn't go.
They went.
With hindsight, I'm able to recall that they go to Vegas every year. I realize that, had I said "you guys should go see this guy", they would never have gone. It was the odds. There was a fresh challenge in the air.
Note to self: Parental Persuasion does work.
Thankfully, neither of them posted even a simple $2.00 bet. That woulda been some good eat'n. I have to hand it to them. I think it's totally cool that they went to the concert. Surely, we atleast owe them a nice dinner.
Today is officially a great day. Be sure to look for me in a sweet holiday sweater next year.

What you fail to realize is that your parents are "totally cool," even though they are greater than 60!
I've known people who are greater than sixty who are always looking for a new adventure. I know those who are less than 40 who are afraid to drive across town.
You never quit learning until you are less than alive - maybe when you are older you really understand that.
who is anonymous? one of your parents who doesn't know quite how to use the comments function on the computer? must be your dad!

Who's this smart-ass Laurel person? She's popping up (and off) on several Blogspots I visit. She must be the one you hear about and the story of the "youth in Asia". I'm amazed she could even spell "anonymous"
