Just finished a great article from a week-old Newsweek about methamphetamine. If you have a chance, it's a pretty amazing read. I think what's most interesting is that (according to the article) The Bush Administration is focused mostly on pot, as they claim it's the 'gateway' drug. I'll be the first to admit that pot, especially in it's current very potent form, is definitely a drug for the DEA to have their eyes on because it's good for no one, and very abundant among teens.
Recently we talked to teens about partying and they just say "sure kids smoke." I had to clarify for my own understanding, "you mean smoke pot, not cigarettes, right?" In my day, smoking meant cigarettes... So yes, pot is definitely an early drug for teens these days. However, let's not forget, alcohol is THE gateway drug.

Meth is a problem in a lot of factories around here. I guess that it is cheap and easy to get or produce. A lot of workers start using it so they can stay awake during the night shift. Pushers hang around 2nd and 3rd shift hours to sell their wares.
Talk about enslavement! Many of these people have two jobs and really struggle. Then, they take this crap so that they don't collapse into some conveyor belt while doing an endless repetitive task, then they become an addict on top of it.
as someone who has had extremely limited experience with drugs, i read this article like i read most articles about whatever the new problem drug is and think, "would i ever?" i try to play devil's advocate and wonder why someone would want to take that drug in the first place.
you know what completely killed it for me? that chick's annihilated skin and the meth mouth shot! no thanks -- i'm out.
